About Us

In July of 1975 the district was formed by local residents to meet the needs of a thriving community and these residents petitioned for the formation of the Oregon Water Wonderland Unit II Sanitary District.  We are a non-profit service district that is regulated by ORS 450 and State DEQ Regulations.  We are monitored by a local Board of Directors.

The sanitary district owns and operates a wastewater treatment facility in Deschutes County.  The plant is located in the Oregon Water Wonderland Unit No. 2 subdivision, south of Sunriver.  The subdivision is approximately 19 miles south of Bend and 2 miles west of Hwy 97, east of the Deschutes River.  The original facility was constructed in 1983.  The entire subdivision consists of 1,006 lots all of which were included in the sanitary district when it was formed.  At the time the district was formed, however, the developer was only required to provide sewer to 286 lots which were located in the portion of the subdivision that was deemed unsuitable for septic systems due to the high groundwater conditions especially in the early spring.
